Oscar de la Renta dies, aged 82

Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82, his family have confirmed, following a 10-year battle with cancer.

The world-renowned fashion designer was famed for his elegant and feminine red carpet gowns and was a favourite amongst celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker and First Lady Jackie Kennedy, who discovered the designer.

After working for the likes of Cristobel Balenciaga, Balmain and Lanvin, de la Renta founded his own label in 1965 and showcased his final S/S15 collection for the label at New York Fashion Week.

Last week, it was announced that de la Renta would be stepping down as creative director of the brand and replacing him is Peter Copping, previously creative director of Nina Ricci.

Many celebrities have been paying their respects to the designer and sharing their fond memories of him on Twitter and Instagram.
