Apart from the Festival in August, the great eateries and the atmosphere, what do people come to Edinburgh for? The shopping.
Edinburgh is filled with independent boutique shops selling bespoke gifts. One of the main attractions of shopping in these independent shops is exclusivity; one of a kind pieces that you can’t find anywhere else. That is all about to change with the creation of ‘Love from Indie Street’ (LFIS), the online collective of Edinburgh’s best boutique shops.
With the rise of online shopping, consumers want the high street at their fingertips and ‘Love from Indie Street’ is aiming to give that immediacy to buyers.
Site founder Rebecca Christensen said: “I founded Love from Indie Street with the aim of making changes in the online gift market so that independent and local businesses could get in on the action.”
Many people use Edinburgh’s boutique shops as a source unique of birthday and Christmas gifts for their loved ones.
Christensen says that the site encapsulates her love for these shops: “As a life long fan of buying from independent local stores, even just walking into a faceless, oversized (just why do they have to be so big) store makes me break out in a cold sweat, I wanted to do something that could make a difference.
She added: “We are lucky to have so many magnificent independent shops, bars, restaurants, spas and hotels to choose from, but as the saying goes if ‘we don’t use them then we will lose them’”.
Hopefully, with ‘Love from Indie Street’ the amount of people shopping locally in Edinburgh will increase. As well as shopping, LFIS also offers the option to create personalised ‘wish lists’.
This allows users to collate items, which other people can then view and purchase – perfect for wedding gifts, baby showers, or a special birthday. Of course, you can always just use the site to make a few cheeky buys of your own.
