Lib Dem leader Tim Farron has attacked the Prime Minister on his stance on the refugee crisis during his address at the annual party conference.

In his debut address as the new leader today in Bournemouth, Mr Farron lashed out at the PM claiming his treatment of people seeking refuge in the UK as “pitiful”. He accused David Cameron of making “the minimum effort for the maximum headlines.”

He told members of his party, “It’s pitiful and embarrassing and makes me so angry. Because I am proud to be British and I am proud of Britain’s values, so when Mr Cameron turns his back on the needy and turns his back on our neighbours.

I want the world to know, he does not speak for me, he does not speak for us, he does not speak for Britain.”

His stance on the refugee crisis was met with cheers and the longest applause of the speech.

Mr Farron also took time to pay tribute to the late Charles Kennedy, saying, “Charles’s death has robbed us of the sharpest mind, the wittiest tongue and the nicest bloke.”
