Man charged with attempted murder following Grassmarket ‘hit-and-run’

 An Edinburgh man has appeared in court after being charged with attempted murder following a collision in the city’s Grassmarket area.

Caoimhin McSherry, 22, from Edinburgh, is accused of attempted murder after the collision left another man hospitalized and in a critical condition.

Further charges of failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident are also being held against Mr McSherry.

He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.

The pedestrian, who is in his 50s, was hit by a car on Sunday evening in the popular area of Edinburgh.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the collision.
