Edinburgh parking charges to rise

Plans have been unveiled to raise Edinburgh’s parking prices by a third.

Hourly charges in popular areas like the West End and the Old Town could increase from £2.60 to £3 if the proposals go ahead.

Motorists are angry at the fees, and there is a risk that they will soon be driven out of the city centre altogether. There are worries that in the long run the charges could affect businesses in the town centre.

The plans will be put forward for public consultation in a bid to raise around £1 million for the council, who need to save £141 million in the next four years.
