Ross County have reached their first-ever League Cup semi-final after beating Inverness in a thrilling derby game.

Goals from Jackson Irvine and Michael Gardyne saw the Dingwall side record their first win over their fierce rivals since January 2014.

Ryan Christie hit the post for Caley before Greg Tansey pulled a goal back with a stunning strike but County held on to secure their place in the draw for the semi-finals.

Manager Jim McIntyre says his side have the quality to go all the way.

“When you get to a semi-final, you have got to believe you can go on and actually win it,” he said.

“It’s about winning the semi-final now.”

McIntyre hopes his side can go one better than their last trip to the national stadium, when they lost the 2010 Scottish Cup final to Dundee United while still playing in the second tier.

“It’s been a long time since this club had a day out at Hampden and the record in the cups has not been great,” he added.

“We wanted to make sure this season that we tried to get to the latter stages and we have got to the semi-final now.

“We are all delighted with that and especially from my point of view the bounce back from the defeat against Hearts as that was the poorest performance we have had this season.

“It has shown me the character in the squad to do that in a week with three away games at Hearts, Inverness and Dundee United on Saturday.”
