Death Toll From Afghanistan- Pakistan Earthquake Rises

Afghanistan and Pakistan are scrambling to rush aid to survivors after this week’s magnitude-7.5 earthquake. The region’s overall death toll has risen to 385 and is steadily climbing.

The earthquake was centred in the mountainous Hindu Kush region, 76km (45 miles) south of Faizabad, the US Geological Survey reported.

This sparsely  populated region is inaccessible to many aid convoys. The Taliban are also present in the area which is affecting the relief effort.

The quake was so severe that tremors could be felt as far away as northern India and Tajikistan.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is cutting short a visit abroad and returning home.
