Man jailed after Edinburgh city centre robbery

A man has been jailed for 40 months after assaulting and robbing a woman in Edinburgh city centre in July.

Brian Auchterlonie attacked the woman in her 30s on the pass between Rutland Square and Festival Square on the evening of Tuesday 12th July. The woman suffered facial injuries after Auchterlonie attacked her and her purse was stolen.

Following extensive enquiries by the Violence Reduction Unit at Gayfield Police Station, including a CCTV media appeal, 27-year-old Auchterlonie was arrested and charged.

Detective Constable Alison Wyllie said: “I am very grateful for the public response to the media appeal.

“As a result of this appeal we received information that ultimately led to his arrest and conviction.
