Neuer will now miss the next five Champions League group stage games – including two against Celtic.

The Hoops started their European campaign off in disastrous style – losing their opening game 5-0 at home to Paris St Germain.

Brendan Rodgers’ side now have five games remaining to try and qualify into European competition after Christmas for the first time in three years.

Celtic travel to Belgium next Wednesday to face Anderlecht in their second group game before a double header with Bayern Munich.

The German Bungesliga champions will now look to understudy Sven Ulreich who has only featured 12 times for the Bavarians since arriving from Stuttgart in 2015.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Neuer’s surgery: “The operation went perfectly, which is the most important thing for now.”
