Sailor dies after being rescued from the Cromarty Firth

A man has died after being pulled from the Cromarty Firth near Invergordon.

The 56-year-old was a sailor whose dinghy capsized yesterday afternoon (Monday 18 September). His family have been informed.

Emergency services were called to the incident shortly before 5pm after public concerns of a person in the water.

RNLI crews were forced to swim to the man before retrieving him from the water and applying CPR.

He was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by the coastguard helicopter but has since been confirmed dead.

Inspector Jamie Wilson said: “There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
