Scotland Women face Albania in a World Cup qualifier tonight

Scotland Women take on Albania tonight in a FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier at St Mirren’s Paisley 2021 Stadium.

The game will be the first home fixture for the women’s national team since their appearance at the European Championships in the summer. The 2019 World Cup in France is now the target for Scotland, and there have been changes in the coaching staff.

Anna Signeul has left her role as head coach, with former Arsenal Ladies manager Shelley Kerr taking over. The qualifying campaign for the World Cup began last week, as the new boss saw Scotland run out 2-1 winners in Belarus.

Scotland will be hoping to continue their good form at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, where they completed a 3-1 win over Slovenia in April 2016. In that fixture, goals from Kim Little and a Jane Ross double secured the win. Ross was again pivotal in the recent victory against Belarus – scoring the equaliser and setting up the own-goal winner.

Despite Scotland coming into the game in good form, Kerr believes her team must be ‘patient’ in their play against the Albanians.

“Albania will be a team that will set up to defend and will make it very difficult for us,” she said. “We want to concentrate on what we have and it will be important to be patient during the game and take our chances when they come as we have a talented group.”

The game kicks off at 7:30pm and is free entry to all spectators.
