Police are now looking for witnesses after a 24-year-old man was left with serious injuries last night when two youths attacked him in the Leith area.

The attack occurred on a bike path near Connaught Place and was described as an attempted murder.

The attack was apparently motivated by an attempt to steal the mobile of the victim, who was then left with injuries to his arms and abdomen.

It remains unclear how the attack was carried out by the youths.

Detective Inspector Kevin Harkins said: “This was an unprovoked and brutal attack that has left the victim with serious injuries.”

The victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where police say his injuries remain serious, but he is in a stable condition.

Edinburgh Police launched their appeal on its Facebook page asking locals to come forward with any information they might have on the attack.

Harkins said: “I am eager to hear from anyone who may have been in the area close to Connaught Place last night and who saw what happened.”

“Similarly, anyone who has any information to assist with our inquiries into this incident, and in tracing those involved, is asked to contact officers immediately.”

Anyone with information should contact the Police on their non-emergency number at 101 with the incident number being 3438, October 8th. Witnesses may also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
